Common questions
Will the numbers work in formulas?
Yes. Amounts like $1,234.56, 12% and (45.00) become real numbers, so you can sum, sort and chart them right away. Numbers in parentheses become negatives, the way accountants write them.
What kinds of PDFs work best?
PDFs made by a program, such as bank and card statements, invoices, price lists and reports. Filekin finds tables drawn with lines as well as columns lined up with spaces.
Does it work on scanned PDFs?
Not yet. A scan is a picture of the page, so there's no text to pull out. Filekin tells you when a PDF looks scanned. Text recognition (OCR) is on the way.
Why didn't it find my table?
Filekin only copies tables: rows and columns of data. Ordinary paragraphs are skipped. If a page has no table on it, it won't appear in the spreadsheet.
Is the formatting kept?
The data is kept, not the look. You get clean cells without the PDF's colors and fonts, which is usually what you want for working with the numbers.
Is there a size limit?
Files up to 90 MB and 300 pages work. For longer documents, split the PDF first and convert the parts.
