Repair a damaged PDF

Fix PDFs that won't open, show errors or have missing pages, and get back as much as can be saved. Add one PDF or a whole batch.

How to repair a PDF

  1. Drop the damaged PDF into the box above, or click to choose it. You can add up to 300 PDFs and repair them all at once.
  2. Click Repair PDF. Filekin rebuilds each file's structure and checks every page.
  3. Read the summary of what was fixed, then download the repaired PDF. A batch comes as one zip file with a report on each PDF.

Common questions

What kinds of damage can be fixed?

Most PDFs that won't open have a damaged index, the part that tells a reader where each page is. Filekin rebuilds it. It also recovers files that were cut short by an interrupted download or email, and pages whose content is partly garbled.

Will I get every page back?

Filekin recovers everything still in the file. If part of the file is missing, for example the end of a download that stopped early, those pages can't be brought back. The summary tells you exactly which pages are affected, and blank pages are kept so the page numbers still line up.

Why are some pages pictures now?

When a page's content is too damaged to keep as text, Filekin draws the page the way a lenient PDF reader would and keeps that image instead, so you don't lose what's on it. Text on those pages can't be selected, but it can be read.

My PDF opens fine. Can repairing still help?

Sometimes. If a file works in one app but not in another, or prints strangely, a fresh copy with a clean structure often fixes it. Filekin tells you when it found no damage.

Can I repair several PDFs at once?

Yes. Add up to 300 PDFs, up to 1 GB in total. Big batches are sent in rounds, so keep the page open until it's done. Everything comes back in one zip, with a report saying what was fixed in each file. If one file can't be saved, the others are still repaired.

Can it repair password-protected PDFs?

No. Open the file with its password, save a copy without one, and repair that.

Is there a size limit?

Each PDF can be up to 90 MB and 2,000 pages, and a batch can hold up to 300 PDFs.
