Add a watermark to a PDF
Stamp text like CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT or your name across the pages of a PDF. It all happens in your browser, so your PDF is never uploaded.
How to add a watermark to a PDF
- Drop your PDF into the box above, or click to choose it.
- Type your watermark, like CONFIDENTIAL or DRAFT, and choose its placement, strength and color.
- Optionally type the pages to mark, then click Add watermark and download your file.
Common questions
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. The watermark is added inside your browser, so your PDF never leaves your device.
Which placement should I choose?
Diagonal is the classic look for DRAFT and CONFIDENTIAL. Across the middle is calmer. Repeated covers the whole page, which makes it hard to crop the watermark out of a screenshot.
Will the page still be readable?
Yes. The watermark is see-through. Light keeps the page easiest to read, and Strong makes the mark hard to miss.
Can I watermark only some pages?
Yes. Type the pages in the Pages box, like 1-3, 5 or 2- for page 2 to the end.
Can someone remove the watermark?
Someone with PDF editing software could. To make it permanent and add a password too, run the watermarked file through Flatten PDF and Protect PDF.
Which characters can I use?
Letters, numbers and punctuation used in English and most Western European languages. Filekin tells you if a character can't be used.
