BR-CO-10 Sum of line amounts doesn't match
The total of the lines doesn't add up: the sum of all line amounts must equal the 'sum of line net amounts'. Usually a rounding difference: round every line to 2 decimals first, then add them up.
What the rule says
Sum of Invoice line net amount (BT-106) = Σ Invoice line net amount (BT-131).
The rule's official wording (CEN / KoSIT). The German XRechnung rules are published in German.
Why it happens
The total of line net amounts (BT-106) isn't exactly the sum of every line's net amount (BT-131). Almost always a rounding difference: lines were rounded after adding up, or a line amount has more than two decimals.
How to fix it
Round each line's net amount (quantity × price) to two decimals first, then add the rounded amounts. If your software makes this error, report it to its maker; you can't fix it by editing the PDF.
Applies to
Every EN 16931 e-invoice: XRechnung, ZUGFeRD / Factur-X, Peppol and others.
More about BR-CO-10
The rule adds up the line net amounts exactly as they're written in the file, rounds that sum to two decimals, and compares it with the stated sum. There's no tolerance: one cent off is an error.
Worked example: two lines of 3 × 3.335 and 1 × 2.005. Rounded, the lines are 10.01 and 2.01, so the file shows those. Added before rounding, the lines come to 12.01, and some software writes that as the sum. But 10.01 + 2.01 = 12.02, so the check fails. The correct sum is 12.02, because the invoice must add up from the amounts it actually shows.
Line discounts and charges are already inside each line's net amount, so they don't appear separately in this sum. Discounts on the whole invoice are handled in the next step, by BR-CO-13.

Typical situations
- Prices with three or four decimals, such as fuel, energy or per-unit components.
- The total is calculated from unrounded values, while the lines are shown rounded.
- A line was edited by hand in the XML after export, without updating the total.
- Gross prices were converted to net per line, producing fractions of a cent.
Example
Two lines and a sum that matches (CII, shortened):
