BR-05 Currency missing
The invoice needs a currency, such as EUR.
What the rule says
An Invoice shall have an Invoice currency code (BT-5).
The rule's official wording (CEN / KoSIT). The German XRechnung rules are published in German.
Why it happens
The invoice doesn't say which currency it's in (BT-5).
How to fix it
Set the invoice currency, as a three-letter code such as EUR, USD or CHF.
Applies to
Every EN 16931 e-invoice: XRechnung, ZUGFeRD / Factur-X, Peppol and others.
More about BR-05
Every amount in an e-invoice is in the invoice currency, so the receiver can't interpret a single number without it. The currency is given once as a three-letter ISO 4217 code: EUR, USD, GBP, CHF, PLN and so on. Symbols such as € or $ and names such as "Euro" aren't accepted.
In UBL, every amount also carries the currency as an attribute (currencyID="EUR"), and the total VAT amount needs it in CII too. Those attributes must match the invoice currency. If the VAT has to be stated in a second currency, that goes in a separate field (BT-6), not instead of this one.
The fields involved
- BT-5 Invoice currency code
- CII
ram:ApplicableHeaderTradeSettlement/ram:InvoiceCurrencyCode - UBL
cbc:DocumentCurrencyCode
Typical situations
- The currency is only shown as a symbol on the printed invoice.
- A template sets the currency for each amount but not for the invoice as a whole.
- The software writes "€" or "Euro" instead of EUR.
Example
Where the currency goes in CII:
<ram:ApplicableHeaderTradeSettlement>
<ram:InvoiceCurrencyCode>EUR</ram:InvoiceCurrencyCode>
...
</ram:ApplicableHeaderTradeSettlement>
