BR-06 Seller name missing
The seller's name is missing.
What the rule says
An Invoice shall contain the Seller name (BT-27).
The rule's official wording (CEN / KoSIT). The German XRechnung rules are published in German.
Why it happens
The seller's name (BT-27) is empty, often because the company profile in the invoicing software isn't filled in.
How to fix it
Enter your business name in your invoicing software's company settings and create the invoice again.
Applies to
Every EN 16931 e-invoice: XRechnung, ZUGFeRD / Factur-X, Peppol and others.
More about BR-06
The seller name is the full name under which the business is registered, or the owner's name for a sole trader. It's a legal requirement for every invoice (§ 14 (4) No. 1 UStG), and the buyer's system uses it, together with the VAT ID, to match the invoice to a supplier account.
Use the legal name, including the legal form, such as "Muster Design GmbH". A trading name can be added separately (BT-28), but it doesn't replace the legal name.
The fields involved
- BT-27 Seller name
- CII
ram:SellerTradeParty/ram:Name - UBL
cac:AccountingSupplierParty/cac:Party/ cac:PartyLegalEntity/ cbc:RegistrationName
Typical situations
- The company profile in new invoicing software was never filled in.
- Only a logo carries the name on the PDF, so there's no text the exporter can use.
- The name was entered as a contact person instead of as the company name.
Example
The seller's name in CII:
